Closing the cancer care gap with data and technology
Health inequities cause certain populations to bear a larger burden of illness and disease. World Cancer Day was Feb. 4 and the theme through 2024 is “Closing the Care Gap”, with the goal of addressing those inequities. SAS Medical Director, Dr. Steve Kearney, spoke with Gen. Elder Granger, who has been working on these problem since his days running TRICARE, the U.S. Military's health care and insurance program. Fellowship-trained in Hematology-Oncology, he is now the Chief Medical Officer at Berg Health and president and chief executive officer of THE 5Ps, LLC, a health care, education, and leadership consulting organization.
Drs. Granger and Kearney discussed various ways we can begin to close care gaps, and I was particularly intrigued by the potential of data and education to help. The interview also links to some other recent news and articles about exciting partnerships with VCU Massey Cancer Center and the CEO Roundtable on Cancer.
To mark World Cancer Day, some of our employees shared their personal cancer journeys on our internal news site. It was a poignant reminder that we’ve all been touched in some way by this disease. I deeply appreciate all those working hard every day to improve health outcomes for everyone.
