Connected Services for Trouble-shooting, Monitoring and Predictive Analytics

Check out my colleague Valentijn de Leeuw's latest blog discussing how in engineering and building process plants, and during operation and maintenance of those plants, the trend is to share more operational data, more frequently, between asset owner-operators and equipment or service providers and their subcontractors, such as;

  • engineering procurement and construction companies (EPCs),
  • equipment manufacturers,
  • process licensors, and engineering / operational service providers
  • operations and maintenance contractors.

The concept of connected remote services enables faster involvement of experts. The time gained in transferring information, analyzing data, and taking a decision can provide enormous value. The faster the reaction, the higher the gains. Damage is reduced and downtime is shortened, resulting in improved cost positions and increases in plant utilization rates, which are directly proportional to turnover.

For example Outotec, a leading process technology firm in minerals and metals processing, water treatment, energy and chemicals, set up a digital platform to provide secure, low-cost, and scalable access to the historical data of its customers’ plants using OSIsoft’s PI Cloud Connect software and the PI System.
