Could Web 3.0 be as disruptive as Web 2.0?

Could Web 3.0 be as disruptive as Web 2.0?

Welcome to the third generation of the World Wide Web or the Semantic Metaverse World.

These are things that not only futurists talk and dream about, anymore. We are already there.

Web 2.0 marketing strategies and content creation focused on the Customer Experience (CX) and delivering the right message to the right person at the right time and on the right platform.

How will Web 3.0 influence User Experience?

Let's start at the very beginning, not the A, B C's or Do-Re-Me's of the Sound of Music, but rather the one, two, and threes of the World Wide Web.

1991: Web 1.0, the "read-only" era.

Marketing strategies in Web 1.0 focused on search and the customer’s ability to find the information they are looking for. Websites were still static and it was difficult for users to find information. Web administrators and managers were the content creators of this era.

2004: Web 2.0, the social and interactive era.

Marketing strategies in Web 2.0 focused more on the CX and how to make things better and more user-friendly. Making content and platforms more responsive, accessible and engaging through video content, social media platforms, technology and e-commerce sites. User-generated content has become a big focus.

Customers can now share their thoughts, ideas, content (and product reviews) with the rest of the world.

The technologies that we focus/ed on in Web 2.0 are/were:

  • HTML 5
  • CSS 3
  • Javascript
  • AJAX

2022: Web 3.0, the Semantic, Metaverse web era.

(Semantic web, a term invented by Tim Berners-Lee to describe a web environment of information that machines can analyse, learn, and understand.)

(Metaverse: a combination of Virtual reality and Mixed reality, creating a 3D virtual world)

Web 3.0 will change how websites are built and customers interact with them. The focus will be on customers creating their own experiences through technologies like:\

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI)
  • Machine learning
  • Decentralised governance (allowing users to post content on the World Wide Web without any permission from any central governing authority)
  • Blockchain (the vehicle to move to decentralised services and apps)
  • Cryptocurrency transactions

Users will not only search for content through search engines, but search results will be from everywhere and anywhere, including social media platforms, user-generated content, and websites.

Customers can shape their brand experience when they interact with your products and services online.

Some concerns about Web 3.0

When looking at some of the concerns of Web 3.0, it may include an increase in cybercrime, hate speech, and misinformation, as customers will have full control over what they share as part of a decentralized Web 3.0 environment.

The future is on your doorstep

Imagine a world where the Internet can accurately understand, translate, and learn what you type and what you say (text and voice).

A world where all the content your customers see and consume is more personalised to them than what you can ever imagine.

Marketers and Content creators, hold onto your strategies and content plans because you are about to enter the Web 3.0 Metaverse.
