Creating Healthy Tribal Organization
I just came back from conducting a training on healthy tribal organization for Tribal program directors from eastern South Dakota. It was a small group but I got excellent feedback. I will be going back in January to do a follow up training. Some of the topics we covered were lateral violence in the workplace, characteristics of a dysfunctional workplace, how to deal with Tribal politics, ethics and systemic issues that impact an organization such as abuse of power. There was a lot of discussion about micromanaging by Tribal leaders which always seems to come up when I do this training. The Tribal staff who attended were all engaged and had very good input into the training process.
I used to do this training a lot but not as much these days. It is one that every Tribe needs and the goal of the organization who sponsored the training is to bring more participants to the next training. COVID is still limiting travel but hopefully it will be better in a few months. I currently live in Washington but I enjoyed very much being back in my home turf. Like I told those present there are only two kinds of people in the world: Those from Cheyenee River Reservation and those who wish they were. A little intertribal rivalry never hurt anyone!
