Creative AI Thinking - for new ideas, novel ideas & to improve raw ideas

Could this be the true killer app of AI technology that will turn us ordinary folk into the extraordinary?

In this Issue 57, we highlight research & thoughts that indicate that AI will radically enhance / augment the skills and innovative ideas-generating capabilities of creative thinkers.

One might be forgiven for thinking that an 'ideas' man / woman might be fearful of a new technology that appears to threaten that which makes them unique. That is certainly not the view of this author! Here are some extracts from fresh papers and insights that lend to this view:

Enjoyed this excellent paper with must-follow (and repeat-read) case studies - How Generative AI Can Augment Human Creativity - Harvard Business Review (August - July 2023) - Extract: 'Organizations focus on synthesizing a host of customer requirements but struggle to produce a comprehensive solution that will appeal to the community at large. Our research and our experience working with companies, academic institutions, governments, and militaries on hundreds of innovation efforts.. have demonstrated that this technology can help organizations overcome these challenges. It can augment the creativity of employees and customers and help them generate and identify novel ideas - and improve the quality of raw ideas.'

Extract: 'When developing new product ideas or designs, generative AI can facilitate collaborations between a company’s designers and users of a prospective product and among users themselves. In other words, the technology makes co-creation of new offerings much easier and less expensive.'

Extract: '..the advantages - the opportunities to dramatically increase the number and novelty of ideas from both inside and outside the organization - will make the journey worthwhile. Generative AI’s greatest potential is not replacing humans; it is to assist humans in their individual and collective efforts to create hitherto unimaginable solutions. It can truly democratize innovation.'

Look out for these quote extracts in the video - Why AI Matters And How To Deal With The Coming Change w/ Emad Mostaque - link below:

14:41 '..you can do anything now because a lot of the stuff that blocks you isn't there anymore. Any of you can now be creative. Any of you can now build systems, and so you build the systems that adhere to the unchanging demands of people to make their lives better, and that's value and they'll pay you for that value. We're all creators.. all of a sudden you're not restricted by what you learned in school. You can bring the best to anything you desire. Anything you can control it.. from mindset to materialization.

16:21 'You're a 20-year old and you're trying to decide what to do now, what is your advice. You just throw yourself 100% into this. It's the biggest change in society ever. It'll be more disruptive than the pandemic in the next year or two.'

Generative AI Use Case And Applications - August 11, 2023 - Extract: 'This blog provides an opportunity to explore the applications and use cases of generative AI across different industry domains.'

AI in Brainstorming: Unlocking Creative Potential - lots of useful insight in this blog post. Extract: 'When applied to brainstorming, AI can analyze all the available data within a blink of an eye, and generate a large number of ideas quickly, boosting human creativity and improving brainstorming outcomes.'

The economic potential of generative AI: The next productivity frontier - June 14, 2023 - Extract: 'All of us are at the beginning of a journey to understand this technology’s power, reach, and capabilities. If the past eight months are any guide, the next several years will take us on a roller-coaster ride featuring fast-paced innovation and technological breakthroughs that force us to recalibrate our understanding of AI’s impact on our work and our lives.'

Extract: '..as generative AI continues to develop and mature, it has the potential to open wholly new frontiers in creativity and innovation.'

Extract: 'We identified 63 generative AI use cases spanning 16 business functions that could deliver total value in the range of $2.6 trillion to $4.4 trillion in economic benefits annually when applied across industries.'

Ideas are Dimes a Dozen: Large Language Models for Idea Generation in Innovation - Extract: 'In this study, we showed that the LLM technology in the form of ChatGPT4, a technology available for just a few months at the time of our experiments, is already significantly better at generating new product ideas than motivated, trained engineering and business students at a highly selective university. Our results examined ideation productivity and quality separately. In each match-up, ChatGPT came out ahead. Combined, the effects of much higher productivity and the higher quality of the best ideas will likely completely trounce human ideators. The order of magnitude advantage in productivity itself is nearly insurmountable, and the higher quality of the best ideas further adds to the advantage of the LLM. We can now put these tools in the hands of any innovator at extremely low cost.'

i wrestle with the idea that AI makes one creative. perhaps i'm confusing creativity with originality. The term aggregator is more appropriate ie how one puts it together, to what can be attained by AI. Semantics?
