Customer Operations - Standard Life

Customer Operations - Standard Life

Lucy Moracen from Talent Acquisition sat down with Daniel Louden from Customer Operations to reflect on his time here, his biggest challenges & his proudest moment...so far!

What did you do before joining Standard Life?

I was the business administrator for a small manufacturing company who supplied bespoke fabrication to the commercial catering industry. I was responsible for marketing and the day to day running of the business.

What did you initially think about joining a financial services organisation & what do you think now?

I was delighted to be joining such a reputable company within an exciting industry; I was sure there would be loads of support and opportunities to progress and I haven’t been disappointed.

What is the best surprise you have had since joining?

The people and the support at hand. Coming from a business of 6 people to a massive institution I was worried I would get lost in the crowd, but I needn’t have worried. It was clear from my very first day that the experienced members of staff were delighted to be welcoming new starts and that they would be happy to support us every step of the way. I’ve also been surprised at how much the staff are listened to by management; I’m eager to voice the ideas I have safe in the knowledge that they will be taken on board.

What has been the biggest challenge?

The biggest challenge for me has been learning about the products we service and how to have conversations with our customers. Discussing endowments and bonds aren’t everyday conversations and having never worked on the phones I found it quite daunting taking my first call. The training I’ve received was really thorough though and I soon got used to my new role.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

I’ve had a few so far but what really stands out is the moment I was signed off as competent. The process involved passing ten consecutive calls which were listened to by a quality assurer. Ten calls seemed impossible at first but I set myself the target of passing within one week. Thankfully I was signed off on the Friday afternoon and could go away and enjoy some celebrations over the weekend!

What would your advice be for someone considering applying to join Standard Life?

Go for it! Bring enthusiasm and put your best self forward and you can’t go wrong.
