DAN'S WINE BLOG

500TH POST

This is my 500th blog post since I started in 2011. Initially it was sporadic and then became regular 48 times a year, with only 3 absences due to family matters.

Hopefully over that time frame I have passed on much interesting, often unusual wine industry news which often promoted the exciting world of #emegingvarieties and winemaking in new/unusual places like Scandinavia and Nepal.

In the early days it was all positive news with wine sales growing around the world and especially with Australian wine sales to China booming. However in more recent times between Covid-19 China’s ubiquitous tax on Australian wine and declining global wine consumption, the news has become more “doom & gloom” and less Hoorays.

In recent months a number of the Facebook groups that I post my blog on have started to suspend my post and not put it on their site- the This Week’s wine Review still go through but not the Blog. These groups comprise a significant proportion of my contacts list.

Having looked through each post and given that other groups have posted them, I can only presume that the suspension is due to the fact that there is wine news they don’t like in those posts. Many it is because I talk about sinking wine sales, or the rise of Low/No alcohol wine or maybe even my criticism of the Italian Prosecco producers. I have asked the group moderators for a reason/ explanation, but none has been forthcoming.

In any case I have decided that this is an appropriate time and place to call it a day. Therefore, this is my final Blog. Sorry to the small cadre of regular and dare I say it avid readers, but it is a lot of effort to suffer the frustration of being bounced by several sites sporadically.

So Ciao dear readers, I will continue to review wines and post across the social media platforms – so far this year 1912 wines reviewed of which less than 20 failed the test and weren’t reviewed (winemakers got a polite email with my reasons)

Thank you for having followed me/ read my posts, I wish you all the very best for 2025, full of good health and sensational wines, especially #emergingvariety wines.

GOODBYE/ CIAO/ ARRIVEDERCI/ ADIOS

Cheers Dan T
