Day 1: #RESHAPE21 Highlights

Today, we kicked off RESHAPE: The Experience Code, a two-day virtual leadership and experience summit featuring some of the most influential speakers and valuable brands from around the world.

13k registrants, 140+ sessions, and 220+ speakers

Hande Cilingir Welcome Keynote Day 1 RESHAPE

What seemed like a distant mirage on the horizon, finally arrived. The energy was electric and the anticipation reached a crescendo when Insider CEO and Co-founder took the stage to welcome people to a day of interactive conversations and illuminating conversations across four key areas: Leadership, Customer Experience, Sustainability, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

We heard a lot of great sessions and speakers share their wisdom, experience, and predictions, and while there is so much that's not captured below, we hope you find these gold nuggets as valuable.

Loyalty & Values

"We need to reimagine loyalty - and instead focus on preference management." - Raja Rajamannar, Mastercard

“Historically, companies used to ask “what is our value?” ESG is about asking “what is our purpose?” - Denielle Sachs

Personalization & Privacy

"Customers still want personalization, even in this privacy-centric world, but they want it done the right way. Marketers have to give consumers reasons to trust us so that they raise their hands to opt into our messaging." Liz Emery - Tinuity

Oren Kaniel of AppsFlyer and Patience Haggin of the Wall Street Journal at #RESHAPE21, a two-day virtual leadership and experience summit

"Cookies are not good or bad. The market was always addicted to user-level data to provide good user experiences. But the future lies in data aggregation — enabling the good without the bad." - Oren Kaniel - AppsFlyer

"It's really important not just to focus on the width of the data, but also on the depth of the data — data stitching." - Deepak Subramanian. Unilever

“Print and digital media are moving to a kind of omnichannel approach. This will generate a stronger impact on both consumers and advertisers.” - Marina Zhekova, NETMEDIA

Sustainability & Climate

“Out of the 10 countries worst affected by climate change, 9 of them have a majority of non-English speaking people.”

“It’s critical to engage young people in decision-making spaces because we are the ones that are making the biggest steps towards climate change. 40% of adults in the world have never heard of climate change, while young people, in contrast, are increasingly engaged in acting on climate issues.”

Climate advocacy and youth leadership session at RESHAPE21 Day 1, Sept. 15

“Language accessibility in the climate movement is a big issue that needs to be tackled.”

“The biggest thing people can do towards climate change is vote for people who you believe will act on the climate crisis, pass progressive legislation.”

“Thrifting, going vegetarian, or consuming less meat: these are some of the small ways in which Gen Z is being environmentally conscious.”

“Social media is powerful in reaching a large number of people, to raise awareness about the climate crisis.”

“What young people want to see:

  • Elected officials who believe in climate justice
  • Schools to pass climate resolutions, teach about climate justice, environmental racism
  • Businesses that emphasize sustainability
  • Educating others, uplifting marginalized voices.” - Sophia Kianni

Leadership

“With ESG: Learn, adapt, pivot (if needed), and repeat!” - Denielle Sachs

"Adapt to trends, but stay very different." - Mona Kattan, Huda Beauty

Hande Ciligir and Sir Martin Sorrell, S4 Capital at RESHAPE

“Failure is a missing ingredient. It just means go back, think about everything you’ve done - there’s something missing. This is what failure is.”

“I am made from my failures. I am not made from success. We need to normalize failures."

“With a good balance between emotional intelligence and rationality there’s nothing you can’t achieve.” - Dr. Sara Al Madani

Banking & Inclusion

“Countries that really invested in financial inclusion were able to efficiently leverage those to bring social payments to people when they needed them during the pandemic.” - Claudia McKay, CGAP, World Bank

“At a time when you couldn’t go to a bank or an ATM, the simpler things like small money transfers were enabled based on the infrastructure that we built for financial inclusion, as First Bank, and Nigeria as a country.” - Folake Ani-Mumuney, First Bank Nigeria

“Identification was a real challenge for women across Africa who don’t have proper legal documents, property, etc.” - Folake Ani-Mumuney, First Bank Nigeria

“If you don’t look at financial inclusion through a gender lens, we might not be able to create the right solutions for women. This has to be a deliberate action taken by all key actors.” - Folake Ani-Mumuney, First Bank Nigeria

"You really have to follow what your gut is telling you and nine times out of 10, you're probably going to be onto something magical. Sometimes you won't and that's okay to just have to be okay with failing, occasionally, but I really think magic comes from within yourself.”

"Use negative feedback as a self-development tool." - Mona Kattan, Kayali & Huda beauty
