Diversity & Inclusion in the Workplace

Diversity & Inclusion

I was invited to an event last week by Tom Jreige (Focus Cyber Group), which was hosted by The United Nation's Dr Sandy Chong (UNAA), who had a great panel discussing the importance of Diversity on Boards (The Future of Board Leadership) and how having Diversity on Boards can have such a positive impact on any organisation.

I believe this to be true and love how these leaders are striving for this and fighting for the wider population to have equal and fair rights to sit at this level and have their opinions heard. With strong opinions and thoughts on this topic themselves, I thoroughly enjoyed hearing and learning from their experiences and thoughts on this: Tony Chong (WACCC), Nicole Jenkins (Hub Marketing / CCIWA), Chris West (WA Super) and Fadzi Whande (UWA)

As well as at the top level of organisations, I can also see the great value diversity and inclusion can have throughout any team and organisation, at any level.

I believe the more diverse your company’s people, the more chance you will have of bringing together multiple and various, opinions/points of views/beliefs/cultures/knowledge and experiences and that if we are able to learn how to collaborate these various mindsets in the right way, it will enable us all to reach new levels of intelligence, engage diverse audiences, meet different goals and achieve exceptional things, more so potentially than if we are all working of the same mindset.

My only key note at the end however, is to hope individuals/companies do not then discriminate to be diverse for the wrong reasons, such as discounting a potential employee who is of the “majority” and has the right skill set to ensure they hire more of a diverse fit, as this is surely politically incorrect in the opposite way?!
