Do you always hit your goals?

Do you always hit your goals?

I hope you enjoyed some beautiful weather over the weekend! It's school time in our world and it was all about mental and physical preparation to get ready for this morning...the FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!

Each school year, I ask the kids what they want to accomplish. This year's goals are: straight A's, honor roll, a couple sport championships (gotta keep the streak from last year alive), admission into Belmont University, grow 6 inches, and a six pack.

Whatever it is that's on their mind that they want to achieve, we talk about what they want, why they want it, and put a plan in place to achieve it.

Cool thing is, the past few years they have hit their goals, (except for the growth part, that will be on the list for a couple more years).

Now how about you? There's a saying, How you do one thing is how you do everything. I scoffed at that until I started paying attention to how I go about accomplishing my goals. This is what I found out...

I started this challenge at my gym to reach 31 miles in the month of August, they call it an Ultra Marathon.

If you've been struggling in your business, and want to have your business working for you instead of you working for it, I'd love to speak with you! I am a high-performance strategist and business coach, at Achievant Coaching . As a business coach, I work with businesses and individuals to grow their revenues and create self-sustaining businesses while creating more time off for their families, friends, and interests.

Now back to the story, if I complete the challenge, I get a water bottle and a towel. Who cares right? I wanted to see if I could hit this challenge. At the beginning I was full of hope and vigor, knowing it would be hard and also knowing I could do it.

I had just been sick for 3 weeks, coming off of traveling for 2 weeks, with a lingering cough and annoying congestion. I thought this would be a great way to get back to the physical and cardiovascular conditioning of where I was the month before.

I reversed engineered what I needed to do and put a plan in place to accomplish the goal. My plan was to work out Monday-Friday of each week. There were 22 week days in the month. If I could hit 2 miles each day, I would easily make my goal. MORE than make my goal, (2 x 22 = 44), right?!? I could take a few days off and STILL make my goal!

What I didn't realize is that the mileage would change with each class. I didn't have control over the programing. I wasn't guaranteed 2 miles each day. Some days it was 1.1 miles, other days it was 1.9 miles. In addition, there were days where I was just plain tired and sore and didn't want to go.

By the 3rd week, I needed to complete work in the mornings to meet a deadline and had to cancel 4 straight days. At this rate, I wasn't going to meet my goal! What the heck?!?!

I had to pivot and adjust. I found classes where the only exercise was running for 45 minutes. I signed up for them for the remainder of the month to ensure that as long as I showed up, I would hit the goal.

I'm coming into the 4th week and have 5 miles left with 5 classes on the books (and two of them 45 minute running classes). This got me out of bed this morning.

All I need to do is show up. That's it, roll out of bed and show up to class and the goal will be met, probably by Thursday. I also have this goal on the family board in the kitchen. My kids are watching, my spouse is watching. Being lazy and saying, "I just don't feel like it" is not an option. Having excuse after excuse is not acceptable for the kids, so it's not acceptable for me either.

I want to show up, I enjoy doing the work. Honestly, it's not that hard, it's just a matter of staying consistent and...SHOWING UP.

Here are my questions to you: Are you setting yourself up to meet your goals? Do you move full steam ahead only to sputter out about half way or three quarters to the finish line? Do you give up when it starts to look impossible?

I've got good news, you're reading the right newsletter! If you want to learn more about creating a full-proof plan for your goals, personally and professionally, I invite you to the meeting on Monday from 12-1pm EST on Zoom: Here's the Zoom Link.

If you can't make the meeting, set up a discovery call: Discovery Call ( worksmartercrm.com
