DoHS Announces Partnership with BridgeValley for SNAP Employment and Training Program

The West Virginia Department of Human Services (DoHS) is excited to announce that its Bureau for Family Assistance (BFA) will add a new SNAP Employment and Training (SNAP E&T) third-party training partner beginning October 1, 2024 – BridgeValley Community and Technical College! BridgeValley will be the first official community and technical college (CTC) partner through SNAP E&T.

On June 25 and 26, 2024, three employees and a summer intern from the Bureau for Family Assistance Policy, two members of the BridgeValley faculty, and representatives from the Seattle Jobs Initiative (SJI) and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACT) met to discuss the partnership’s purpose, goals, and processes that will allow students to receive SNAP E&T services while enrolled in various academic and workforce training programs offered by BridgeValley. These programs offer students the opportunity to participate in both in-class instruction and on-the-job training for in-demand careers such as BICSI Fiber Optic Installation, Utility Line Service Maintenance, Commercial Driving, Phlebotomy Tech, Heavy Equipment Operation, and Horizontal Directional Drilling.

This partnership hopes to assist students by providing BridgeValley training to faculty so that they can aid students in the SNAP enrollment process, find and select appropriate in-demand higher education academic programs and workforce development programs, and offer continuous support through case management of those students eligible for the SNAP E&T program. Upon successful completion of the program, BridgeValley will assist students’ placement in in-demand employment opportunities in the workforce or post-secondary education.

SNAP E&T  is a program designed to provide motivated Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) participants with the ability to gain in-demand skills that lead to higher paid employment, educational opportunities, and job placement in critical employment sectors. SNAP E&T is a package of services offered to interested participants that includes assessment, employment and training activities, and wraparound supportive services.

BridgeValley aims to begin enrolling students in SNAP E&T in November so that students can begin participating in SNAP E&T for the spring semester, January 2025.
