Don't buy the myth-- Job Fairs CAN help you land a job!
We often hear from job-seekers that job fairs are a "waste of time" and that companies in attendance are "not really hiring." The origin of these myths are not important but next time you hear someone repeat something along these lines, take a second and examine the statement(s).
First, as anyone who has ever worked in recruiting- or currently works with recruiters can attest- they have precious little time to their days. Taking a day away from their office to man a table at a hiring event would not be their first choice-- unless they were actively seeking talent! What would be the possible ROI on attending these types of events if they were not actively searching for applicants?
The second misconception is that employers only "tell you to apply on-line." Part of that statement is indeed accurate, as companies have hiring processes that generally first include an applicantion. That being said, do you honestly believe that making a great impression on the actual person who may indeed be reviewing your application/ resume has no potential to increase your chances of landing the interview? Our experience in working with both employers and job-seekers tells us it does!
Join us this Thursday (11-30-17) from 10:00am-1:00pm for our annual Fall Career Fair at 735 N. Gilbert Road in Gilbert. Have your resume ready and make an effort to connect with the employers on-site. I will be at the event. Let me know how it goes!

6yGreat advice. Target your search and definitely research the company. Facts regarding the company will not only show your interest but will also help your conversation flow with the recruiters or hiring managers.

6yJob fairs, one of my favorite topics & nice article. They are a must for both employers and job seekers. A quick note to job seekers, research the companies who will attend and see what openings they have, apply to the position that you are most qualified for and then go to the job fair and be ready to give your sales pitch. Please don't show up to a job fair and tell the recruiter that you are looking for work or that you are open to any position. That's the wrong way to start off a conversation unless you are talking to a staffing agency that truly has openings in every position/industry.
