Don’t miss AAIC 2024’s first-class scientific program

What’s the purpose of a Scientific Program Committee (SPC) anyway?

Each year, the Alzheimer’s Association convenes global experts in topics across the Alzheimer’s and dementia research space to shape the program of the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC). SPC members work year-round to source the most relevant and innovative content for attendees.

Not familiar? Let’s put it simply: AAIC is the largest international meeting dedicated to advancing dementia science and clinical practice. And this year’s conference, July 28-Aug. 1, in Philadelphia, USA, and online, is poised to have the best scientific program yet.

The SPC chairs for AAIC 2024 are Dr. Wiesje van der Flier and Dr. Sebastian Palmqvist.

“Attending AAIC 2024 offers a unique opportunity to dive into the latest Alzheimer's research, connecting with leading experts and innovators. AAIC is a place where groundbreaking ideas emerge and collaborations form, pushing us closer to overcoming Alzheimer's. Please join me at the forefront of this effort to make a real difference in Alzheimer’s research.”

— Sebastian Palmqvist, M.D., Ph.D.

The Scientific Program Committee has been integral in determining AAIC 2024’s plenary sessions. Here’s what to watch for:

  • University of Pennsylvania’s Edward B. Lee, M.D., Ph.D., will discuss the future of neuropathy in a multidisciplinary age.

  • Tara Spires-Jones, Ph.D., of University of Edinburgh, U.K., will explore synaptic oligomeric tau in Alzheimer’s disease, which may be a culprit in the spread of tau pathology through the brain.

  • Suvarna Alladi, DM, of India’s National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences will discuss the interplay of bilingualism and dementia and what the implications may be for brain health and policy development.

  • Timothy Miller, M.D., Ph.D., from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, USA will deep dive into antisense oligonucleotide therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease.

  • And more plenaries from international heavy hitters including Henne Holstege, Ph.D.; Ricardo Allegri, M.D., Ph.D.; and Clive Ballard, M.D., Ph.D.

The AAIC experience is defined by a diverse scientific program. With more than 4,500 posters and 750 podium presentations this year, there’s something for everyone.

I am looking forward to attending my first AAIC conference. I am a international dementia advocate and probably connected to more than half of the attendees on LinkedIn. I won’t remember you but please look out for me and say hello. Michael Ellenbogen
