Dothan Seeks SEEDs Funding for Westgate Super Site

The Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Dothan,  Houston County Commission, and the Industrial Development Board of the City of Dothan  recently applied for site acquisition grant funds offered though the Alabama SEEDs Act. After an exhaustive search of the developable property in the region, the Dothan team believes they’ve found the State of Alabama’s next premier industrial site.

Bolstered by the site’s large available capacities for all utilities, the 447-acre Westgate Super Site is primed for a major economic development project, particularly one requiring heavy utilities. The site is currently served with robust utility infrastructure provided by Southeast Gas, Alabama Power, Dothan Utilities, and Brightspeed Internet. Additionally, the site is bordered by a CSX mainline.

Dothan Mayor Mark Saliba and Chairman Brandon Shoupe understand the importance of preparing the area for growth. "Dothan has one of the premier business climates in the Southeast,” Mayor Saliba says. “I am confident that our investments from the City and County  in the Westgate Super Site will serve as the missing ingredient needed to attract the world's most innovative companies, fostering the creation of future-oriented, high paying job opportunities for our residents."

Dothan Area Chamber of Commerce President Matt Parker and Colton Cureton Vice President of Economic Development  applied for $3.9M in SEEDS funding on behalf of the Industrial Development Board of Dothan, committing local matching funds in excess of $2.9M. “The Dothan area has a strong track record of attracting high quality businesses looking for the lowest risk location to build their newest facility,” said Colton Cureton. “The Westgate Super Site will put us in position to compete for the best projects in the market today.”
