Driving Projects Forward
A Day in the Life with Kanani S, Project Manager

Driving Projects Forward

How were you introduced to Panorama?

A friend of mine worked at a local education technology company here in Arizona and always admired what their company provided. Then a mutual friend of ours joined Panorama and that is where I learned about who Panorama was and what Panorama provides!

After briefly learning about Panorama, I did my own research and really got to see from an outside perspective how Panorama lives out its company values. It was clear to me that Panorama was true to its mission. Their partners were really appreciative of the partnership Panorama provides.

Now that I am in the Project Manager Role, I get to see and experience firsthand how Panorama stays true to our core values. One of the things I witness every day working at Panorama is our core value Focus on Student Impact.

All of our teams across the organization continuously strive to build and improve functionalities to provide best-in-class products and services to districts all across the nation.

What does your typical day look like?

A typical day for me is always different! On a daily basis, I have at least one check-in meeting scheduled with a partner in my portfolio. We have recurring check-ins to ensure partners are feeling supported and we are aligned with ongoing and upcoming projects. I work cross-functionally with other departments within the company to collaborate on client work, brainstorm and provide feedback from partners on products and product usage, strengthen current internal processes, and much more!

One thing I wish someone would have told me when I started at Panorama is that our company truly practices the core value of Progress over Perfection. I came from a Smart City Technology company and even though I worked in school districts, it was in a public safety capacity. I had to learn the intricacies of the education industry and was hard on myself when I wasn't aware of specific terms/abbreviations. My leadership team always supported me in my learning and let me know I’d learn these types of things over time!

What excites me about my role is that I get to work directly with partners every single day. I get to listen to and learn what their district goals are to support all students and how they use our platform/products to achieve those goals. I am a big people person so I love getting to know partners' wants and struggles and then being able to meet them at their highest point of need.

What makes you so successful?

To be successful in the Project Manager role, we need to be very detail and task-oriented and have strong time management skills while also being able to adapt when things suddenly change within projects. We also need to be empathetic and supportive of partners as we are just one part of their day-to-day.

There are so many things to learn in this role but one of the most important is how significant relationship building is especially in this remote environment. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily projects but just taking the time to ask partners how they are doing personally and professionally really goes a long way.

We genuinely care about our partner teams and their students here at Panorama.

My role as a project manager aligns with the overall company in providing support to our partners in a caring, bold and innovative way. Project Managers aren’t simply just making sure milestones are met and projects are launched in a timely manner, we are also here to be a support system and a sounding board for partners and provide them a sense of stability in an ever-changing environment.

My role as a Project Manager helps solve the problem of mundane implementation. We are here to not just be a vendor to implement and drive projects forward but to be an actual partner to the district who can go above and beyond the simple task at hand.
