Earning Patient Trust: The University of Miami Health System Commitment

UHealth Ranked Among Most Trusted Brands in Health Care

At the University of Miami Health System, earning and maintaining patient trust is fundamental to delivering exceptional health care. Trust is not just a metric; it’s the cornerstone of the relationship between UHealth and the people of South Florida and beyond. Their approach is anchored in fostering a health care environment where patients feel valued and understood.

Reflecting this commitment, UHealth was recently named the ninth most trusted brand in health care in Monigle’s “Humanizing Brand Experience Volume 7: Health Care Edition.” Monigle is one of largest independent brand consultancies in the U.S. For the past seven years, the firm has produced an annual report that provides various insights into how health care organizations and their audiences interact.

"Being named one of the most trusted health system brands in 2024 is a profound honor that speaks volumes about the dedication and passion of our entire workforce. It's a testament to the relationships we've built, the trust we've earned, and the impact we've had on the lives of those we serve,” said Alison Mincey, J.D., Chief Human Resources Officer for the University of Miami, UHealth and the Miller School of Medicine. “This recognition reaffirms our commitment to fostering a culture of belonging through empathy, integrity, and excellence in everything we do. Together, we will continue to innovate and lead with compassion, ensuring that every individual who walks through our doors feels valued, respected, and cared for."

UHealth patients see leading physician-researchers who collaborate on new therapies developed at the affiliated Miller School of Medicine. The Miller School garners $175 million in annual National Institutes of Health funding, meaning UHealth patients have access to the best of therapies and current clinical trials. UHealth also offers expertise in more than 100 specialties throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, Collier, and West Palm Beach counties, with nearly three dozen satellite clinics.

The UHealth Approach

The Monigle report emphasizes that effective listening and personalization as critical to building trust in health care. At UHealth earns that trust with consistent, patient-centered practices. Patients are cared for as individuals with unique needs and concerns.

UHealth’s constantly evolving array of services and standards ensures patient needs are always top priority:

  • Patient and Family Advisory Councils (PFACs): PFACs solicit patient input on everything from facility design to patient care practices. By involving patients and their families in these critical areas, UHealth ensures that their services are truly patient-centered.
  • Transparency and Communication: UHealth has open and honest communication with patients, including straightforward information about their care and involvement in decision-making processes. Effective communication improves patient comfort and minimizes readmissions.
  • Patient Specialists: UHealth staffs the inpatient unit with a Patient Specialist who is responsible for non-clinical needs, with an emphasis on personal connections that foster deeper trust.
  • Wellness and Preventative Care: UHealth works with patients to prevent illness and support long-term well-being, aligning with the needs and preferences of their patients.
  • Continuous Improvement: UHealth uses direct and consistent feedback to improve services and exceed patient expectations.

Looking Ahead

“The Monigle report amplifies and affirms UHealth’s dedication to superior patient care, and the future holds exciting possibilities as the organization unveils a state-of-the-art cancer research building and medical centers in Doral and SoLé Mia,” said Carlos Correcha-Price, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at UHealth.

“UHealth’s commitment to patients undergirds its expansion and extending its services to new patients will be marked by the patient- and family-centered care philosophy UHealth has always espoused.”

You’re not doing well when you have your staff doing unnecessary procedures on patients to earn additional monetary rewards and thereby cause harm to patient
