Engaging your Employee Team in the Season of Giving

Engaging your Employee Team in the Season of Giving

Even as we continue to enjoy blue skies and warm sunny days, the fall season is upon us. Soon the weather will begin to shift, colors of foliage will start changing, and we will sense the introduction to a new season.

Seasons are something that I’ve come to understand represent not only the weather but also various times in our lives. We have times of celebration, times of growth, and sometimes, extended periods of struggle. We read about it in Ecclesiastes, and even the Byrds proclaimed in their 1965 hit, “To everything there is a season. Turn! Turn! Turn!”

As we enter the fall and winter season, it’s also a time to consider those who are experiencing a winter season in their lives. Of course, there are children, families, and seniors throughout our community who have year-round needs. But the holiday season is always a special time when we can lend a hand to help those less fortunate right in our community.

Although Thanksgiving and Christmas may seem to be far off, it’s not too early to get started. Many nonprofits are already collecting toys, clothes, and other needed gifts for those in need. Whether you are an individual, have a group of employees, or are part of a church, club, or team, your help is needed.

At the Hope Through Housing Foundation, we will be gathering toys and other gifts for children and teens across the Inland Empire. Last year, when one family received a Christmas tree at the Colonies Holiday Miracles event in Upland, I heard a mother softly respond, “I didn’t think we’d have a tree this year, but now my kids will be so excited.”

When given the choice for what they want for Christmas, I have been amazed to see how many kids in low-income families choose socks, underwear, and other necessities. And that’s what it’s all about -- giving every child the chance to have an equal footing and equal opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential in the future.
