Every business is in the business of time

Think about the last time your phone or your computer was a hundredth of a second slower than what you’re used to on Wi-Fi and how much you cursed it. That’s how much we like and crave time. It’s a huge theme that will play itself out and should be really understood by those of you who are looking for a place to play with new business.

When you think about Uber, Airbnb or Netflix, which wiped out the video store, many of you will say that these are anomalies, when in actual fact they are a preview of what’s to come. None of these new emerging businesses have really been about transportation or accommodation or entertainment, they have all been about time. These businesses trade in time by giving it back to the end customer.

When it comes to business, time is your number one asset. In order of magnitude, we as a society literally care about the health of our loved ones, money, and then time. It’s number three on that list. And if you really think about it, it’s stunning to watch people’s behaviours around the things they value most.

It’s the reason why many emails don’t get read, why phone calls don’t get answered or returned and why many decisions in business literally don’t get made.

Time is everyone’s number one asset. 

We love time so much that we don’t even think about it, but it is in every decision we make in business.

Being able to buy and sell back time is what some of the most successful start-ups over the last 3 years have done. For our business, we are essentially a time trader, getting to the end retailer in the shortest possible time to give our clients the leads they need to grow their business, and saving them time on dead call costs.

It is also the very reason why retailers love our program and give us such a high net promoter score, because we save them time in finding new products for their business without having to leave their business, or deal with the daily interruptions and time wasters. 

If you can simplify the process of buying and selling and save time in the process, you will put yourself in a winning position and provide a real opportunity to deliver value to your end customer.
