FAMILY BUSINESS-MAYERS FINE FOOD

F Mayer Imports had humble beginnings, like many success stories Fred started from his bedroom then his garage at his home in Bondi in 1957. Then, when he started importing cheeses and more perishable goods he rented cool room space at Sydney cold stores in Ultimo. Later he was accompanied by his sons Robbie and Sam.

Today Mayers spans over two large warehouses in Banksmeadow, Sydney and Altona North in Melbourne with warehousing in Perth and Brisbane. Growing from a staff of one to nearly 200 employees.

Like most other family businesses Fred, Robbie and Sam did everything from ordering, sales, picking orders, deliveries and collecting debts. In 2006 they restructured the business, putting trained, experienced people into key positions, freeing the family members to run parts of the business they excelled at. 

Apart from the Mayer Imports that is 100% family owned, we also have a separate joint business with Arla Foods of Denmark which specializes in dairy products of which the family owns 49%.

After 64 years in business importing food from all over the world and as a distributor for many local Australian products, Mayers is proudly supported by the second and third generation of the Mayers family.

Fred believed it is always about supply and demand, for a business to succeed everyone had to make a buck, the supplier had to make a buck and the customer had to make a buck too.
