2 things you can do to save a family business
Lucille's Kitchen Garden has been in business for 9 years. Owners Zoie Glass & Amy Glass have methodically built the company. As many of you know, they started selling at the Mill City Farmers Market in 2007 and built a solid self-distributed wholesale business. In early 2016, the company expanded into regional distribution.
In addition to creating beautiful savory jams designed to be sold with cheese and cured meats, Zoie & Amy also co-founded Midwest Pantry, which is a member-driven organization of local food creators that works to make Minnesota the #1 place to start and run a food business. Midwest Pantry is currently meeting its mission by offering an education series for start-up food entrepreneurs, networking events, and wholesale & retail sales opportunities, which includes the Local Food & Gift Trade Show.
After returning from a business trip to Boulder, CO with food community leaders just four short weeks ago, Amy and Zoie were stunned to receive news that Amy has a very aggressive Stage 4 cancer that started in her breast and quickly moved into her lungs and lymph nodes. She began chemo treatments this past Thursday and is no longer able to work.
To ensure that her self-employed family can retain its health insurance, Zoie is working to maintain Lucille's Kitchen Garden retail business with a fleet of generous volunteers. Fellow entrepreneur Joy McBrien created a GoFundMe campaign to help the Glass family maintain cashflow as treatment continues. This campaign is now becoming very important to ensure that the volunteer staff will be able to continue securing ingredients and packaging materials to build and sell from inventory in order to keep the business going.

remain focused on fighting cancer when at home.
Thanks so much for your help and support of an independent business owner and champion of the local food community.
