Fantastic first year for The Glades Restaurant Terrace. One year on and business is booming

Bromley’s food hotspot, the Restaurant Terrace at The Glades, has raised a toast to over one million diners who have visited its eateries in its first 12 months of opening.

The first official week of opening last summer saw visitors flocking to The Glades in their thousands to experience the brand new addition to the popular shopping destination. Since opening, the centre has seen footfall increase on average by 4% and The Glades General Manager, Kate Miller, said she was delighted with the response. “I’m thrilled with just how popular the Restaurant Terrace has proven to be,” said Kate.

A number of new arrivals and flavours were welcomed to the centre as part of the development, including American eatery Ed’s Diner, Giraffe – famous for its globe-spanning cuisine - booming burger joint Byron and Asian-inspired Wagamama. Alongside the exciting new food options, nearly 500 jobs were created for both the construction of the development and to staff the restaurants, giving the Bromley economy a welcome boost.

“All four new outlets were firsts for Bromley, and I’m delighted with how popular they are with shoppers,” added Kate. “Our intention with the Restaurant Terrace was to create a casual, family-friendly dining experience and that’s definitely been achieved this year.”

Marina Baneviciene, front of house manager at Wagamama, said  “Our results speak volumes and we’re confident we will continue to celebrate success again over the next year.

“We’re perfectly situated so that families can enjoy our menu and the view, while the kids have fun in the play area just a few feet away. We’re excited to welcome many more happy customers so here’s to another 12 months of happy dining,” Marina added.

Marieta Olszewska, duty manager at Ed’s Easy Diner, said “The terrace is a lovely summer spot too and we do lots of sampling – our mini-shakes go down very well. We’re right by Queens Gardens so on a glorious day people like to order food to take out for an impromptu picnic,” said Marieta. “It’s been a really busy year for us and wonderful to serve delicious food to the people of Bromley.”

Tommy Ball, assistant manager at Byron, echoed that the location was a great pull for visitors. He said: “The set-up of the terrace is very attractive and our guests always comment on it. We’ve welcomed people from all walks of life, which has been a highlight and a welcome challenge in catering to peoples’ tastes.

Joe Cuthbert, General Manager at Giraffe, said having delicious dishes on the menu from far-flung destinations around the world was bringing in new crowds of people, and with further investment coming into Bromley, the Restaurant Terrace was certainly making its mark on the food map.

He said: “We are offering a different product to the people of Bromley and they seem to really enjoy it. There have been lots of great moments in our first year, from getting the doors open to experiencing many record takings days and enjoying a lot of laughter with the team and locals.

“With the sunshine, smiles and picturesque views of Queens Gardens – there’s no better place to eat and drink in my opinion,” added Joe.

The Glades is very proud to bring a renewed energy to the town, with Kate adding: “We are always looking for ways to improve and develop what is here at The Glades to give our shoppers the best possible options for both retail and leisure, and this was a key part of that ongoing process.

“The four eateries offer a great range of cuisine from around the world and have become a key part of the offering at the centre,” Kate said. “We’re always in talks with big brand names and independents alike to grow our food options at The Glades. I’m looking forward to announcing new arrivals in the future and to many more years of The Restaurant Terrace.”
