Homecoming of 90s Fashion Trends in 23/24

Summary: While the 90s have given us some of the iconic trends popularized by celebs like Kate Moss, Kurt Cobain, and Will Smith, some 90s fashion trends should stay in the past just like those dial-up connections.

Just when you think of all the possible 90s fashion trends that are forgotten, they are back. The anti-conformist influence on fashion of this glorious era was mostly inspired by the top genres like hip-hop, punk, grunge, goth, preppy, and pop. It was also a golden era for streetwear brands popularized by East Coast rappers. The only way to reimage these trends of yore is to step up the styling game. Pairing your retro jeans with a corset top or bodysuit instead of the oversized and boxy plaid shirt is one way to go.

We cannot pick on just one trend that we are glad stayed in the 90s, so keep scrolling down for our top list of worst 90s fashion trends. In the spirit of reminiscing, throw on your long-forgotten wide-leg or flared jeans and your flannel shirt around your waist, flip your snapback backward and take a stroll down memory lane. We'll tell you why some of these trends should just stay where it belongs.

1. Skorts

Is it a skirt? Is it shorts? Oh wait, it's both. It's so confusing that it is one for the bygone era. While some might think this trend has the best of both worlds in it, we're saying to ditch them once and for all.

2. Low-rise and lace-up waist pants

waist pants

If one ain't a disaster, we got two. Popularized by pop culture icons, this is a trend to be left in the past. Also, how do pants this low even stay up? Unless you're Britney Spears, this should be a strict no-no.

3. Overalls

If the theme you're going for is "toddler," this outfit fits the brief. Although we have sophisticated versions of this in the present, this trend has children's park vibes written all over it, especially when it was worn without a shirt underneath back then to look cooler.

4. Tube top

tube top

Not flattering on all, the tube top doesn't always fit right, and spills over in all the wrong places. It's a big No to tube tops, especially if they are in shiny vinyl.

5. Pedal pushers

JLo was seen wearing them at one of the glam events. This below-the-knee above-the-ankle wonder is a lose-lose situation in itself. It is also unflattering for short-statured people.

6. Tinted sunglasses

These may have been celeb favorites back in the day. Let's say the world doesn't get better just by looking through these yellow and pink-tinted glasses and making the wrong fashion statement.

7. T-shirt over a long-sleeve top

The only person who could pull off this look was probably Rachel Green from Friends and Sheldon Cooper from the Big Bang Theory. Unless it is getting cold out there and you want to bring your layering game, wearing this doctor sleeves trend is a no-go.

8. 90s Neon

Popularized by Will Smith in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, these were loud and top-to-toe neon was harsh on the eyes. This caused many people to squint and try to avoid looking at them directly. So it's better to leave this fashion back on the rack.

9. Animal print

animal prints

While animal print when used as accents like snakeskin print boots or leopard print mini bag on a minimal and monochrome outfit can make the look, all the way animal print outfits like Shania Twain's "That don't impress me much" may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Bring on the Nostalgia!

A lot of 90s fashion trends have come back with better upgrades, and there are a few that we wish we never see again. Bring on the nostalgia for we are going over three decades back to make sure some of these trends stay where they are, with your walkman and other odd accessories. The ones deserving mention in the worst trend list includes zig-zag hair bands, butterfly tops, and terry wristbands.
