Federal Knowledge Management Symposium showcases cutting-edge solutions and best practices

The 2024 United States Department of Defense and Federal Knowledge Management Symposium drew over 1,000 professionals and experts from around the world to explore the latest best practices, technologies and advancements in knowledge management.

Defense Information Systems Agency Knowledge Management Branch Chief David McKinney facilitated several sessions with experts from the private and public sectors including the DoD Chief Information Officer , US Army and the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) .

The symposium began with a focus on the history and use of Knowledge Management Maturity Assessment Tools, detailing how agencies have achieved results through their implementation. This session laid the foundation for the Solutions Showcase, which highlighted the practical impacts on real-world knowledge management decisions.

Another highlight included the DOD CIO Records Officer Mark Patrick’s contributions to the session, "Empowering Efficiency: Achieving Zero-Click Records Management." He emphasized the importance of streamlining records management processes for maximum efficiency.

Participants also gained valuable insights from sessions focusing on how to build knowledge management buy-in, integrate agile and AI in everyday practices, establish a knowledge management program, and maintain fundamental practices such as log hygiene.

The symposium also featured sessions dedicated to specific organizations’ knowledge management models, with a spotlight on "KM at the National Science Foundation." These sessions provided a comprehensive look at how diverse institutions are leveraging knowledge management in their unique contexts.

Overall, the DOD and Federal Knowledge Management Symposium underscored the growing importance of knowledge management in today's rapidly evolving landscape. Attendees left equipped with valuable knowledge and actionable strategies to enhance their practices.
