Finally It Is Friday… My random views from this past week. Week ending on March 27th.
Although there is still a high level of anxiety and uncertainty regarding the COVID-19 situation, life is still going on and there are many great examples of how kindness, courage, collaboration, and leadership are emerging to battle the virus. I realize that some of these observations are trivial to the larger picture, but for many people they are very true. My intention was to capture the spirit of what we may see as we carry on with our work and lives. Listed below are my work, community, and personal observations of the first full week of my work / life "Shelter In Place."
#1 GROOMING: I have not shaved for 7 days. Having a neck beard is a true commitment. I have a new found appreciation for recently retired Indianapolis Colts QB Andrew Luck…
#2 ATTIRE: Wearing a Hoodie lowers productivity by 10%. There is zero data behind this, but I believe in my heart this to be true…
#3 PATIENCE: How I speak to my Amazon Alexa speaks volumes about me and my patience. Although I think Alexa’s active listening skills could improve, I can be nicer while she steals my data and records my consumer patterns…
#4 HEALTH: The fastest way to lose 10 pounds during a “Stay In Place” work remote period is to angle your ZOOM camera down and to add a touch of smart lighting. Requiring team members to use their cameras on ZOOM also increases productivity by 10%. There is zero data behind this, but I believe it in my heart this to be true…
#5 OVERNITE EXPERTS: Someone’s anxiety and uncertainty of this situation is directly correlated to their new found overnight subject matter expertise in any given topic like - Global Economics, Epidemiology, Infectious Disease, or the role that the Central Banks will play in this crisis. More or less – “simmer down Russ.” This message is for the person who now sounds somewhat wise and seasoned because they stumbled upon and gritted through reading a recent Economist article. Deep down we all know you struggle with creating a new folder on your desktop. Relax and go back to binge watching Friends…
#6 VIRTUAL RELIGION: Once we all come out of this, and we will come out of this, Peloton instructors will become the new high priests and priestesses of the land…
#7 LinkedIn: Right now LinkedIn has the ability to “hook you in” more than any other social media platform. I believe I have an unhealthy addiction to LinkedIn. This is more of a cry for help than a statement. Someone intervene. Seriously. No really…
#8 MAN'S BEST FRIEND: Never in the history of time has it been better to be a dog. Social distancing does not apply, multiple walks per day are the new norm, and more kids are in the house to play. Now more than ever Humans must embrace the unconditional love that dogs give us. The Human race deserves it…
#9 PERSPECTIVE: Remember this, up until this point we all survived 100% of our toughest days. The bad news about a crisis is that they happen. The good news about a crisis is that they end…
#10 CYA STATEMENT: And finally for this Friday…the views shared here are not the views of my company, my clients, my family, my friends, my neighborhood, my town, my county, my state, and my country. Much love and appreciation to everyone on the frontlines of healthcare, education, essential retail, transportation / logistics, government, and the first responders who are working bravely to get us through this. - Ken Stellon
