Finance Academy

In the dynamic landscape of today's business world, financial acumen is essential when navigating complex challenges and making informed decisions that drive organizational success.  

Learning the basics of accounting is the foundation for financial literacy - a crucial skill that employees in today’s world need to interpret and analyze financial data, foster a deeper understanding of a company's financial health, and aid in strategic planning. 

To ensure a high level of financial literacy within Ingram Micro GBS in Bulgaria, we have created the Finance Academy.  

The Finance Academy is a training program which aims to introduce our employees to the basics of accounting and help them understand the financial implications of their jobs. The program has been running for several years, but the best thing about it is that it is entirely driven and delivered by employees from our internal accounting team. This way, we manage to utilize the knowledge and expertise that already exists within Ingram Micro GBS for the benefit of all our employees. This approach also allows our accounting experts to step into the role of trainers and expand their skills and their network within the company. 

The Finance Academy program consists of 2 instructor-led modules: 

• Module 1: An instructor-led training called “Finance Fundamentals” that covers accounting basics, the mechanics of accounting, and financial KPIs. No previous financial knowledge is required for joining this training, so every employee at Ingram Micro GBS is welcome to attend, no matter which department they come from. Upon completion of this module, participants receive a certification test and if they pass it, they can enroll in the second module.   
• Module 2: An instructor-led training called “Finance Enthusiasts” that is specially designed to explore the depths of the accounting and finance concepts in practice. Through a series of practical exercises, participants learn things like accruals and prepaid & deferred expenses.   This module is open for all employees who have completed the “Finance Fundamentals” but is most suitable for people from our Finance departments.  

In 2023 alone, we had a total of 76 people who completed the “Finance Fundamentals” module and another 27 who went through the “Finance Enthusiasts”. The data shows an extremely high level of satisfaction with both modules. Here are some of the comments shared by participants:  

• The duration, structure, and content of the training were just right, and I enjoyed a lot this delightful and beneficial to my business understanding learning experience. 
• Overall, the training was an enjoyable and interesting learning experience, and I would rate it 9 out of 10! 
• The training was great and useful! 

Finance Academy is our way to allow all employees to see the intersection of business acumen and accounting and to analyze and discuss financial statements and performance metrics, thus feeling confident when telling the financial story of our company.
