Introduced by the European Commission in 2019, the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) aims to improve transparency regarding the ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) aspects of financial products. Following updates in 2020 and clarifications in 2022, the EC gathered stakeholder feedback in 2023.

Significant changes in the new SFDR system

Based on the December 2023 public consultation results, the ESAs suggest significant revisions, categorizing funds into two broader categories:

1) Sustainable category: funds impacting sustainable development.

2) Transition category: funds moving towards sustainability.

The ESAs also suggest a new grading system to improve transparency on product sustainability alignment.

These revisions refine ESG regulations, enhancing consumer understanding. Financial professionals must swiftly adapt to accurately process ESG data and comply with evolving regulations to maintain competitiveness. For more information, visit our SFDR article on our website.
