Randy Munns joined the Festival Foods team in 1991 as a third-shift grocery manager. He subsequently served in many roles including grocery manager, buyer, merchandising director, non-perishables director, VP of merchandising and marketing, and SVP of merchandising and marketing. Today, Randy leads our teams of store operations, marketing, and merchandising professionals as Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.
We asked Randy to share more about his story, why he chose Festival Foods, and his leadership style.
Q: What was your first job?
A: Full-service bagger. Not only did I bag the groceries, but I brought them out to the car for the guest.
Q: Why did you choose Festival Foods, and what do you enjoy most about this culture?
A: I wanted to get back into the grocery industry. I had a choice; Festival or a competitor I worked for. Festival had a great culture, whereas the competitor was known for displaying poor leadership; leading through power and intimidation. The choice was easy.
Q: Share more about your leadership style and what you’re “known for”?
A: I would hope to be known as a leader that leads by example, puts people first, and is always looking to inspire confidence in others.
Q: What’s always in your Festival cart?
A: In my Festival cart, you'll always find a selection of staple items: blueberries, cod, seasoned chicken, pistachios, in-shell peanuts, and oatmeal.
Q: Anything else you’d like to share?
A: I love spending time in the Northwoods, out on the water with my family and my 3 dogs. When I am not up-north, I love to travel and visit historical places.
