A Five-Star Hotel Opens in Provence
Aix-en-Provence in the south of France continues to offer a quiet heaven with its cultural history including panoramic views of Impressionism and its fine dining experiences. Now there’s Villa Saint-Ange, a boutique five-star hotel within a short walk to Cours Mirabeau (the main thoroughfare through the town). The property occupies more than 86,000 square feet with a magical Provençal garden decorated with statues and fountains. There’salso the “mirror” swimming pool which is heated year round.
Prior to the French Revolution, a chapel and convent were on this site and then later at the end of the 18th century, the property was more distinguished with the addition of family-owned mansion with its two stone lions greeting its occupants. Ultimately the building was restored by an architect and an array of French companies.
With only 35 rooms and suites richly decorated, it is an ideal location to get away and spend the day having a picnic in a nearby garden or park. Besides the restaurant which has its own vegetable garden, there’s also a gym, massage room, large Jacuzzi and a private lounge.
