Fluke 120B Series Industrial ScopeMeter® Hand-Held Oscilloscopes
I had a privilege to get to know the Fluke's first handheld fully portable oscilloscope named Scopemeter PM97 way back in 1993, not so very long after its introduction worldwide, together with other two models PM93 and PM95 from the same series. It was the beginning of my sales career and I had no idea about what a revolutionary instrument I got into my own hands.
Shortly PM series was replaced by a real Fluke 90 series, 90B series introduced bright fluorescent backlight display, 190 series changed design and extended bandwidth to 200 MHz, 190C series introduced a real color display while recent 190C Series II brought 4-channel models and extended bandwith up to 500 MHz. Engineers love these instruments. What an impressive development in less than a quarter of a century!
What about a little less complex, but more useful models for industrial maintenance technicians in the field?
As early as in 1997 the Fluke 123 was introduced and advertised as the ideal choice for technicians troubleshooting industrial machinery, instrumentation, control and power systems being a rugged and reliable handheld dual input 20 MHz scope with Connect-andView™ triggering for an instant, stable display, True RMS dual channel DMM with 5000 counts covering 26 different measurements and dual channel TrendPlot™ "paperless" recorder - all that in one easy to use instrument. It was said at that time:
"So affordable that every technician can have one to become more effective and efficient."
Fluke 124 and Fluke 125 extended bandwith up to 40 MHz and added cursor measurements while Fluke 125 also included bus health test for industrial bus systems and power measurements including harmonics.
Fluke 120 Series Industrial Scopemeters
And then it happened - earlier this year Fluke announced:
"After 19 years of leading 20MHz and 40MHz hand-held industrial oscilloscope category, the Fluke 123, 124 and 125 ScopeMeter Test Tools are replaced by the models 123B, 124B and 125B."
And added a very simple message to all technicians and engineers in industrial maintenance:
"Electro-mechanical troubleshooting has changed. Isn't it time your scope did too?"
Automated industrial machinery is harder than ever to troubleshoot. It’s not enough to just know where to test, you also have to know what to look for.
