From the Pen of a Common - Who is powerful aftermath Demonetisation
Past Demonetisation, inconvenienced myself, I also witnessed inconvenience of quite a number of people standing in the queue waiting for their turn. I also made a number of rounds hoping for shortening of queues.
It was Friday (18.11.2016). Purpose was to hand over the form for getting Fixed Deposit on maturity of Recurring Deposit. Two police men were deputed in the Bank at the gate. Since there was none at the Senior Citizen Queue, I requested Policeman to allow me to go in the Bank as I have to only hand over the form for Fixed Deposit and cheque. I even pleaded that in case he wants, he can check my pockets. In the midst of my pleading and praying I saw another policeman asking the queues to give way to a man accompanied by a woman as the gentleman asking for entry was from an Income Tax Department. I was shocked. Some how or the other, after a few minutes, Policeman, after ascertaining from the Banker, allowed me inside the Bank. Inside the Bank, incidentally, I landed on the same table where the gentleman belonging to Income Tax Department was conversing. While I, as Senior Citizen, was made to wait functionary manning the desk immediately took IT Department official to the Chief Manager's cabin where, I could oversee, the IT Department official was given VVIP treatment. On the functionary coming to the desk where I was waiting for him and, seeing that I had seen what has gone around, informed me that the Income Tax Department Official had come to seal the locker. That was just to cover up his embarrassment and favourable treatment meted out by Bank functionary to the IT Department official. I say so because for various reasons : I. The lady accompanying the IT Department official was carrying a paper on which I could see thumb impression of some individual; ii. Any IT Department Official, if coming for sealing a locker, will straightway go to the Chief Manger's Chamber and not to any lower functionary; iii. In the news channel of TVs on the same day, it was unequivocally made clear that there are rumours that the IT Department is sealing the lockers.
I could realize that while much is talked about the welfare of senior citizens, in the midst of demonetization, apart from Police officials, which are always important, it is the Income Tax Department who have also become, if not more, equally important.
