Future of AI Beyond 2022 – Will the Interest in AI Increase?

Yes, the interest in AI is expected to increase beyond 2022.

The prime AI use cases (e.g. autonomous driving, AI-powered medical diagnostics) that unleash significant economic value are within grasp, therefore investment and interest in AI are projected to rise in the near future. These use cases are likely to happen due to advancements in AI's three building blocks:

  1. more data
  2. one-step-ahead algorithms
  3. computation

According to top AI experts, there has been a 14x rise in the number of bustling AI startups since 2000. Thanks to the brand-new move up in deep learning.

There are a number of high-value AI use cases that need more innovative research.

One required use case is augmenting autonomous driving. Although Tesla and Audi have produced semi-autonomous cars, they still need to be driven by drivers today. This technology is continuously improving, with the goal of fully automated driving shortly.

Besides this, another use case of AI is conversational agents. AI agents are frequently endured in customer service and call centers. However, these agents' powers are currently fairly limited. Conversational agents surely will improve, as AI research advances, allowing them to handle practically all consumer duties in the future.

The research needs to be in new directions for AI development.

Some AI experts, such as Gary Marcus, argue that deep learning has attained its limit and that fresh AI methodologies are needed to achieve breakthroughs. Also, Gary Marcus predicts the next AI prototype, which would open commercial prospects (e.g., new deep learning), will be ready between 2023 and 2027.
