At present, an AI cannot legally diagnose and treat a patient. The other point, about the rate of wrong diagnoses, is also true. While experimenting with ChatGPT I asked it for the number of patients in the U.S. receiving dialysis via a central venous catheter and how many of those patients got catheter-related bloodstream infections and bloodline disconnections leading to blood loss. ChatGPT began by stating that 500,000 Americans are on dialysis with a central venous catheter, which is incorrect. Only 100,000+ are (according to a fact-check with the USRDS. All the subsequent numbers it gave were therefore suspect. That is just a small example of an incorrect inference from the Web-available data, but it points to the fact that more work needs to be done on cross-checking the responses generated.
