I agree with you that humanity is the heart of innovation and progress. And while artificial intelligence is useful and helps us save time and make leaps in various different fields, we should still keep a human touch when it comes to critical thinking. There are many areas where AI is going to play a crucial role in human evolution (for example, being able to run millions of simulations at a time to 1000X the speed at which medications are tested), but we should keep the final say. My advice to people is to use it to take care of the time-consuming tasks, the tasks that you hate doing, or parts of the workflow that don't require your personal touch. For anything else, like the stuff you actually like to do and excel at, you should keep them for yourself.
