On this day in 1990, George H.W. Bush signed the Americans with Disabilities Act. The ADA is a civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability. We were proud to provide President Bush with his #servicedog, Sully, who is now a facility dog at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

This #TrainingTuesday we're taking a look at one way our service dogs can assist their handlers with the opening and closing of doors. The video shows yellow Labrador #servicedog, Chuckie, helping his veteran close a door by tugging a strap that has been attached to the handle.
Before each class gets their new #guidedogs they practice following the movement of the harness during Juno walks with just their instructors. Juno walks help the handlers learn to trust the maneuvers of their future dogs by demonstrating how the harnesses would move when the dogs are instructed to go forward, halt, etc
