Get to Know Shackleton: Meet Tony
Tony Moore is one of Shackleton's founders. He talks to us about his start in the industry, his start at Shackleton, his favourite parts of the job and favourite spots in London right now.
When did you start in the industry?
I started in 1990 in the middle of a recession. Valuing property assets for receivers was a sobering experience in that period but taught me not to take my employment for granted!
How did you get your start?
Like most, we find our niche eventually - I realised that I could turn my interest in shopping into career enhancement, and accepted a position at EA Shaw in Covent Garden, becoming Head of Retail Leasing.
How did you get involved with Shackleton?
Shackleton was hatched out of a desire by Jon, Rob and myself to approach our profession a bit differently than we had experienced previously. For many years, we had enjoyed those bits of our job where we were giving proper strategic advice to our clients, both landlords and occupiers. A tailored approach rather than a cookie cutter!

What's your favourite thing about your job?
It’s got to be the people you meet. I mainly advise landlords and developers, so I meet a lot of occupiers. The entrepreneurial spirit of restaurateurs and retailers constantly impresses me, and I guess some of that inspired us to start our own company.
What's your area of expertise?
My particular expertise is in placemaking. Advising London estates and large scale developments on how to get the best out of their retail assets whilst creating and delivering a vision. I have been fortunate enough to advise many of the great London retail estates in my career which has led more recently into demand from shopping centres and large mixed-use developments further afield seeking advice in how to emulate the successes of London retailing.
We’re advising several large mixed use developments around London’s fringes that will become the neighbourhoods of the future. Applying the experiences we’ve had over the last two years, into creating a vibrant and sustainable retail environment is always an exciting challenge.
Favourite spots or area in London right now?
My favourite spots in London right now are those on the fringe. Those emerging destinations that have, until now, largely been overlooked by retailers. The pandemic turned shopping and dining on its head for a while. Whilst lockdowns increased online shopping, they also helped us rediscover our neighbourhoods and spending locally.
