Getting the small things right
“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” – George Eliot
In today’s challenging times, when companies have to virtually onboard new recruits like me, it is extremely important for all of us to take care of small things that have a potential to make significant impacts. It is important to be cognizant of basic hygiene factors especially when most of us are working remotely from home.
A few of the sanity checks related to these factors can be:
· Taking care of our attire and hairstyle while being on video calls with clients or colleagues
· Focussing on our body language including both verbal and non-verbal gestures
· Being proactive and energetic in our approach
· Maintaining a high entrepreneurial spirit
While important throughout the career, one should always strive to “get these small things right” especially during the early years. It is important to understand that we are always being assessed.
Personal excellence is a matter of attitude. It can help us inculcate the highest standards of professionalism in our approach and differentiate ourselves from others. No matter how small or inconsequential it may seem, it still has a long-lasting impact and aids in gaining the trust and confidence of senior leadership. After all, small things make a huge difference!!
