A great close to Workforce September by celebrating National Employ Older Workers Week!

GreySource extends a huge THANK YOU to all the age-inclusive employers that joined us in bringing Workforce September to a great close by celebrating National Employ Older Workers Week. A precursor to the upcoming United Nation’s International Day of Older Persons on October 1st and the October 7th National Ageism Awareness Day, the Department of Labor designated this past week specifically to highlight the value that older workers bring to the workforce.

The number of individuals working past the age of 55 is currently at a historic high. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that between 2021 and 2031 the number of workers ages 55 years and older will increase by an estimated 10.2% to almost 41.5 million workers. (1)

With an estimated 10,000 adults turning 65 every day (2), retaining and recruiting older workers will become increasingly important in addressing labor shortages.  Employers that capitalize on the tremendously overlooked assets of older professionals now will lead the pack in both performance and profits in the future.

Creating a workplace that attracts and retains experienced talent is intentional and informed, but not complex. Dismantling stereotyping of mature workers in business imaging or internal procedures, incorporating age in company inclusion initiatives, and sincere, visible commitments to developing high functioning multi-generational teams will set the opening act for an inclusive company culture that workers of all ages will want to become a part of.

At GreySource , we specialize in talent acquisition partnerships and mentoring for forward thinking employers that want to embrace the asset of older professionals and who wish to capture the huge opportunity that the longevity revolution is bringing to those who do. Curious what we can do for you? Get in touch.
