Which growth level do you want to achieve in Career?
John Henry Newman has quoted “Growth is the only evidence of life”. Life is all about learning and growth. Next question that comes to mind is what are the footsteps of growth and how do you define them? I have tried explaining the growth levels of an individual in his career.
Technical Know How
Technical skills hereby refer to the correct technique of execution of any assignment. For example, individual dealing in product development, it can be acquiring front-end/ back-end development skills; in sales and marketing development, it can be acquiring negotiation/communication skills, digital marketing, etc. ; in operations, it may be acquiring skills for dealing with your vendors.
Managerial Skill Set
Communication, Decision-making, Delegation, Problem-solving, Motivating are some of the key attributes that can define an individual with managerial skills set. Ideally, a manager should be a role model for his team for functioning/execution.
Leadership
“Leaders are people who do the right thing; managers are people who do things right” by Professor Warren G. Bennis rightly defines Leaders. This stage is when one is able to envision the future which requires a profound knowledge of the industry.
You have ascended the steps of growth levels to the leadership level. What’s next?? Wait there is one level remaining!!
Entrepreneurship
There are multiple definitions for this but what I feel is that an entrepreneur should have the excellent technical know-how, should be a manager and a leader in all aspects of the business including product/service, finance, and human resources along with risk-taking capabilities. Risk is the soul of an entrepreneur.
Ethics, values, and relationships are the building blocks of every growth level.
At which level are you currently? Which level do you want to achieve? How much time will it take you to cross each level?
