Hack back work interruptions – tips from Nir Eyal

Hack back work interruptions – tips from Nir Eyal

Ahead of next week’s Sydney event with Nir Eyal, author of “Hooked” and “Indistractable” let’s take a look at his tips to “hack back work interruptions.”

Nir shares how studies of nurses found they experienced 5 to 10 interruptions each time they dispensed medication. This is how errors result, yet interruptions are a pervasive issue in many workplaces.

His tips for being indistractable at work:

  • Try a visual signal. Print out a card for your desk/computer monitor: “I need to focus now but come back soon” or wear a “concentration crown” (like Nir’s wife does when she doesn’t want to be interrupted)

  • Design an indistractable work environment. Reduce the number of emails you send (and so receive), and spend less time on each email

  • Discuss the importance of working without distraction with colleagues

REFLECT:

How could I signal my request for interruption-free time?

TAKE ACTION:

Book tickets to An Evening with Nir Eyal and enjoy canapes and drinks on Thursday, 28th November, at Tank Stream Labs' Scaleup Hub, Sydney.
