Harnessing the Power of Pain & Pleasure

Harnessing the Power of Pain & Pleasure

There are 2 GREAT catalysts we can leverage to take action and create change

  1. Gaining Pleasure
  2. Avoiding Pain

Every decision we make in our lives is either to GAIN PLEASURE or AVOID PAIN. Once you understand how to harness the power of this fact, you can become a #MAXOUT achiever.

BOTH are powerful. Avoiding pain or associating pain with not doing a particular task, is a massive motivator and is incredibly strong short term. Many call this “harnessing the dark side “

For example, I’m often more motivated out of fear of failing than I am out of the pleasure of succeeding. Fear of loss is a huge motivator

Accomplishing things to prove someone wrong or to move out of a situation that you just can’t tolerate anymore is pain avoidance and a great catalyst to get you to take short-term action and achieve goals.

Pain avoidance is a “PUSH” type of motivation and is incredibly effective

Your God-Sized dreams, your biggest goals, hopes, and desires are always fueled by GAINING PLEASURE.

Being driven by the bigger picture, your biggest and brightest visions and your boldest biggest dreams and the pleasure of getting there is a “PULL “ type motivation.

In fact, gaining pleasure really isn’t a motivational strategy at all ... it’s an INSPIRATIONAL strategy because it pulls you from your heart and you are motivated by being “IN SPIRIT ” inspiration is how we achieve our biggest God size goals/dreams because it comes from our heart and our spirit

Use PAIN AVOIDANCE to achieve short-term goals.

Let your God-Sized dreams be fueled by GAINING PLEASURE.

The happiest and most successful people, know how to get “leverage” on themselves to take action by harnessing both pain and pleasure

Try and harness the power of this knowledge right now!

Comment PAIN or PLEASURE, which one do you use most often? PAIN or PLEASURE?#MAXOUT

I actually utilize both in the sense that Pain Avoidance pushes me hard enough to initiate a task, while Gaining Pleasure ensures that the same task is nicely executed in a timely manner. Very insightful, thank you Ed Mylett.

I believe I'm more toward avoiding the pain. To grow is to induce pain. It's unavoidable but it's a pain I try to get rid of. To get closer to my dream, I need to grow out of this pain by getting stronger so I can tolerate an even stronger pain. Pleasure is a good motivator too, but not as strong as pain in my opinion.

For me it’s mostly Inspiration/pleasure. When I think about Beginning or achieving with The End in mind I hold to the same picture as you Ed Mylett. Things eternal is what motivates me most. However, I do believe that for short term, right in front of me tasks and goals it’s to avoid pain. Thanks for the post. You always inspire. 🙏🏻 Oh! I LOVED your interview with Jasmine Star! Such practical insight! Keep up the great work that you do. You are surely changing many lives for the better! 💪🏻 #MAXOUT

Simple and important advice for anyone in B2B sales! People don’t by without a reason whY. It ALWAYS has to do with pain or pleasure, and it is important to understand which it is. Curiosity arms us to find out. Pain avoidance has been shown to be the greater motivator. It occurs in the hippocampus, an older brain region and one also associated with learning… Makes sense when you think about it.
