Pharmaceutical factory explosion kills 17, injures 36

An explosion and fire in southern India killed at least 17 people and injured dozens more after a solvent leak on 22 August. The blast occurred at around midday at a facility owned by Escientia Advanced Sciences in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Fire at Danish oil refinery brought under control

A fire broke out at the Crossbridge Energy refinery in Fredericia, Denmark on 25 August before being brought under control after a few hours. The facility in the southeast of the Jutland peninsula supplies more than 35% of Denmark’s entire consumption of liquid fuels for shipping, aircraft, cars, tractors and lorries.

Hazardous substance improvements required at Sellafield

The Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) has served two improvement notices on Sellafield Limited due to breaches of The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations 2002. The enforcement action was taken after Sellafield failed to manage the risks of working with nickel nitrate and to prevent or adequately control exposure of workers to this hazardous substance in one of its effluent facilities.

Essar appoints Wood to progress its Hydrogen Fuel Switching Project

Essar Energy Transition (EET), the trading name of Essar Oil UK, has progressed to the front-end engineering design (FEED) stage of its Hydrogen Fuel Switching project. Hydrogen will be provided by EET Hydrogen, the company’s hydrogen-ready combined heat and power plant (CHP) to be built at its Stanlow refinery.
