Hesai AT128 LiDAR for Li Auto L9 at a glance - August 2024
An article written by Arnaud Morillon from Yole Group in collaboration with EE Times | Electronic Engineering Times
Hesai Technology leads the LiDAR market, bolstered by a key partnership with Li Auto and the use of Lumentum 's innovative multi-junction VCSEL technology. Following up on last month’s What’s in the box article, Yole Group takes an in-depth look at the AT128 integrated into the Li Auto L9 and highlights the market dynamics propelling the rise of this major Chinese Tier 1 manufacturer.
The LiDAR market, dominated by robotaxis until 2022, is now led by passenger cars, reflecting the growing demand for autonomous driving technologies. The LiDAR market for passenger cars was estimated to be three times larger than that for robotaxis in 2023 and is projected to reach nearly $3 billion by 2029, with a 39% CAGR23-29, according to Yole Group’s latest LiDAR for Automotive 2024 report. Within this impressive dynamic created by Chinese OEMs, Chinese LiDAR manufacturers are leading the way, with over 80% of the global market share across all vehicle types, with Hesai, RoboSense , and Seyond (formerly Innovusion) on the podium.
Initially introduced in F segment models in 2018, LiDARs have gradually expanded to E and D segments as the technology has matured and production volumes have increased. The GAC Aion V, released last year, became the first C-segment model equipped with LiDAR, and more models are expected to follow from high-end to mainstream vehicles.
In just ten years, Hesai has emerged as the global leader in LiDAR, triggered by its partnership with Li Auto which began in 2021. The company has set itself apart with its AT128 1D scan mirror LiDAR, surpassing Seyond’s fiber laser-based system in both cost and performance and proving more reliable than RoboSense’s MEMS-based product.

2moThe article is good, however I don't know what is F segment. Can you add a table explaining what does those segments mean? How are you doing that segmentation? Is it a technical segmentation or profiling?
