Hey! What are the tech giants doing at the energy conference?

The BloombergNEF Summit always convenes thought leaders from the intersection of sustainability, energy transition, and finance -- but increasingly, we're seeing some of the biggest names in tech make their way into the program, like this week in New York. Why is this?

Well, first and foremost, data centers gobble up energy like Pac-Man chasing down pellets, with AI giving them a much larger appetite. The International Energy Agency (IEA) recently shared, for example, that a simple ChatGPT request uses nearly 10 times more electricity than a regular Google search.

Secondly, many have entered the "controllable demand" side of the energy business, helping consumers optimize their home's energy consumption through smart devices (Nest, anyone?).

Third, because of their size, influence, and footprints, these companies recognize that strategically procuring energy can be a pathway to achieving their business goals

In fact, many have created entire teams dedicated to sourcing, siting, and developing tailored energy solutions to realize their net-zero commitments. That's where MN8 comes in.

More and more, enterprise customers like these firms have matured their energy mix beyond power purchase agreements (PPAs) and are now looking for bespoke solutions like complimentary technologies such as battery storage, offering EV charging to their employees and customers, or even electrifying their fleets.

Our expertise in optimizing, owning and operating over 900 distributed energy assets across North America provides a unique platform to support -- and dare we say accelerate -- our customers' adventure to net-zero. Yes, we said adventure. The journey between now and 2050 will surely include new policies, new solutions, and rapidly changing market conditions -- including a growing global mix of suppliers and financing pathways --  all of which require active navigation.

We're glad to see enterprise customers have a seat at the "energy industry" table. With sustainable energy at the forefront for the world's most sophisticated businesses, we can collectively meaningfully impact carbon while creating better business outcomes for the long-term.
