Highlights from a busy year at CDP

2023 was a challenging year for the environment, but at CDP we also saw some progress. Amid record-breaking temperatures, a record-breaking 23,000+ companies disclosed their environmental data through CDP.

Three years into the decade of action, there’s still a long way to go, but in 2023, we took some big steps. Here are some highlights from a busy year at CDP.

🚀 CDP in 2023

  • We welcomed our new CEO, Sherry Madera, who brought with her a unique mix of experience from business, finance and diplomacy.
  • 23,000+ companies (up 24% from 2022), representing two-thirds of global market capitalization, disclosed environmental data through CDP.
  • Over 1,100 cities, states and regions also disclosed through CDP-ICLEI Track. 119 cities made the 2023 A List, including cities in Indonesia, Turkey, and for the first time, Vietnam – indicating that climate action is becoming mainstream.
  • Our award-nominated Corporate Environmental Action Tracker launched, making more CDP data accessible to all.
  • 3,000+ companies disclosed on plastics for the first time, and at INC-3, we put mandatory disclosure in a global plastics treaty on the agenda.
  • Our pioneering disclosure of landscape and jurisdictional approaches increased by 900%, helping enable public and private sector collaboration in reducing deforestation.
  • We played a prominent role during the UN 2023 Water Conference, holding governments and financial institutions to account on water security.
  • We announced new partnerships and alignments with EFRAG, ISSB and TNFD, improving the quality and quantity of corporate disclosure through CDP.
