Hiring Tech Talent? Do it Right!

According to a recent Robert Half survey the top barriers to attracting tech talent were:

•Compensation (33%): We don't pay nearly as much as our competitors.

•Speed to hire (21%): Our hiring process is extremely slow and we lose good candidates while deciding.

•Perks and benefits (14%): We don't offer as many unique perks or benefits as other local employers.

•Competition (11%): Other large, desirable companies in the area tend to recruit all the good candidates.

•Awareness (8%): We don't do enough to promote our organization as a great place to work.

Some simple fixes will help!

  1. Benchmark your compensation packages (including all benefits) and make sure it is competitive. Then SELL your candidate on why it is a good deal!
  2. Streamline your hiring process! Multiple interviews & long delays will always mean missing out on the best talent! Use "interview days", get all of the decision makers in one place, make sure everyone involved NEEDS to be involved. Move FAST!
  3. Get creative with benefits and perks. They don't have to cost a ton. Get ideas from other companies.
  4. Create selling messages for your company. Why DO people work there? What makes it desirable? Put your best foot forward. Not everyone wants to work for the high profile companies!
  5. Be active on social media. Be active in your community. Be visible to prospective employees.

Most companies could easily do a better job at hiring, and in today's skills shortages you NEED to get better!
