Welcome to the Pleasure Garden at the Aggie

HIX Animations

For this year's HIX Event , we were challenged to interpret what A Sense of Place means to us as designers if the Business Design Centre were transformed into a hotel. We chose to explore this concept through animated collages, highlighting key guest touch points throughout the imagined hotel.

This approach allowed us to keep the ideas fluid and unrestricted by practical constraints, enabling us to focus on the overarching vision and mood before refining the finer details later.

The Arrival at the Aggie

Inspired by the building's rich history, particularly its role as a host during the late 1800s World's Fair, we set out to design a hotel with entertainment at its core. The creative direction for the collages drew heavily on Victorian aesthetics infused with a bold touch of Monty Python humor. However, our goal was to avoid creating a mere pastiche—it had to exude energy, personality, and, most importantly, a sense of fun.

Storyboarding

Our Senior Designer, Gintare Uogintaite , took charge of storyboarding and designing each collage;

We wanted to replicate that energy for our hotel concept, adding a contemporary twist. Starting with rough sketches to map out focal areas, we gathered a mix of photos, graphics, and hand-drawn elements to create dynamic collages in Photoshop. While the static designs had plenty of personality, we wanted to push them further—so we brought them to life with After Effects - Gintare

Presenting our ideas this way allows us to embrace creative freedom and experiment with new mediums and techniques that we wouldn’t typically have the opportunity to explore in a standard project. Head over to our Instagram account to see them in full swing, complete with music.
