How to Get The Best Talent to Say YES: An Insurance Professional’s Hiring Guide

How to Get The Best Talent to Say YES: An Insurance Professional’s Hiring Guide

How many times has your perfect candidate slipped away at the last second?

Failing to attract A-grade talent, or worse, losing this talent to a competitor during the hiring process is especially problematic in the insurance space.

Why?

Because demand for high-quality insurance talent far outstrips supply.

This means that candidates, not employers, are now occupying the driver’s seat.

In fact, talented and experienced insurance individuals are often besieged with offers. They have their pick of the companies they work for, and the roles they choose to do.

So in a candidate-driven market, how can you entice the best insurance professionals to say yes to your job offer?

Download this step-by-step guide for our framework for getting the best talent to not only apply for your vacant position, but say ‘yes’ when you present them with your (well-crafted) offer.

One of the post important steps in the framework is getting in touch with what jobseekers really want.

What do jobseekers really want when changing roles?

It's important to make sure the your job stacks up to what employees are looking for when it comes to:

  • Salary Benefits (paid leave, flexible work, training and development etc.)
  • Company Culture
  • Career pathways and challenges (is there scope for lateral growth, personal development and/or promotion?)

While every individual will have their own list of things they’re looking for in a new job, the team at Ensure Recruitment have surveyed over 10,000 insurance professionals to find out what jobseekers are really looking for.

We found the top three motivators were:

  • SALARY

32% of respondents say salary is their most important consideration when changing jobs. While it’s not always about money, top insurance professionals feel they should be paid their worth.

How does your company compare to others when it comes to salary? Are you on par, or below? You can use our Salary Tool to see how your company’s salaries compare.

  • CAREER PROGRESSION

25% of respondents say having clear career progression opportunities is their most important consideration when changing jobs. Discussing career pathways at every step of the recruitment process, and developing an individualised plan when they join will help potential employees see their future potential in your company.

  • FLEXIBILITY

14% of respondents say flexibility in the days and hours they work PLUS a further 7% say flexibility and the ability to work from home, is their most important consideration when changing jobs. Providing flexible work conditions is no longer an option for insurers. Make sure you highlight your company’s flexible policies at every chance.

Company culture (11%), training and development opportunities (8%) and a new challenge (2%) also ranked on jobseekers top considerations when moving jobs.

Thanks for sharing Paul Murphy - Not surprised with the top 3 desires of jobseekers, but definitely shocked by the split! I would have predicted that Flexibility would have been much higher.
