How many Apps do you have on your Smartphone that have replaced your Tools and Devices?
The Smartphone is revolutionary and things truly have come a long way
I have had the opportunity to see this growth. Having worked in telco/carriers from 2.5G till 5G, I was able to see a phase of this evolution as the speed increased exponentially. From Netscape to Netflix, the advancement has truly blazed on at a blistering pace so has the way we interact with these devices.
Working with manufacturers, allowed me to see these innovations up close and at their very early stages. For example, I recall using the initial iteration of HERE Maps on a Nokia 6620 as a driving navigation tool on a road that has been there for at least 50 years but just did not show up on the GPS. It was a fun experience and now HERE Maps are a staple on so many vehicles globally.
And who could forget the aesthetically looking Palm devices that just might reside in some time capsule somewhere by now? From phones without a color screen nor a single camera, to those with bendy screens and perhaps more cameras than I can count with a single hand.
I was truly amazed but what gripped my attention the most was seeing a chart from Diamandis’ book Abundance. It shows how smartphones have demonetized $900,000 worth of products and services you might have purchased between 1969 and 1989.
Lo and behold, we have a million-dollar worth of innovations in the palm of our hands.
Innovation is an ongoing reality and will continue to be a demonetizes and disrupt.
Will your Smartphone eventually even replace you? Maybe, perhaps, who knows?
To stay relevant, we as individuals will need to keep embracing growth and learning.
