How Will Tamil Nadu Vote? A New Era For Tamil Politics Awaits

As Tamil Nadu Reels From The Loss Of M. Karunanidhi, A New Era Looms Over Tamil Politics, An Era Unlike Anything Else Seen In Indian Politics.

Regional Politics in India, cannot be compared to any other country, and especially that of Tamil Nadu, that has seen three decades of DMK Vs. AIADMK, or rather, Amma Vs. Karunanidhi, with both of them no more, Tamil Nadu will see a lot of new political forces, that could do away with the traditional Dravidian angle of Tamil Politics.

DMK, will be reeling with death of former CM and flag nearer of Tamil Dravidian Politics, M. Karunanidhi, the party has a powerful MK Stalin in the the drivers seat. He will be leading the partying an era, where a lot of new names, a new generation of politicians, and a bunch of new parties will be coming to get a piece of Tamil Nadu.

But there is a force, unlike any other in Politics, still untested, uncontested. Rajnikant, the actor, has been a blockbuster, living every Tamil man’s dream on screen. But Rajnikant, the politician, is still untested, even more so, when Rajnikant’s non-tamil, non-dravidian roots are taking into consideration. In a state, where politics in divided on the lines of Dravidian ideology, Rajnikant’s political movement bring in a fresh breathe of air, but what agenda, and ideology does he takes up is still up in the air. Whatever it may seem, Rajnikant can’t be undermined, be it the movies, or Politics. An existing network of huge fan clubs, have already started preparing for Rajnikant’s Political debut and his new innings. What is to be seen is how much influence do these fan clubs have.

Another dark force, has been Kamal Haasan, who, has been swinging from Left to Right and back, like a Pendulum. Kamal Haasan, and his Makkal Needhi Maiam, will definitely give a dent to traditional parties, but it could fizzle out, before it is released. Kamal Haasan’s awaited entry into politics, has been overshadowed by the one made by Rajnikant. But in a state, where cine stars are worshipped as gods and goddesses, what kind of impact will they make.

Nor Rajnikant, nor Kamal Hassan, are MGR, or could ever match his flare, but even the AIADMK doesn’t have an MGR, nor Amma. The current ruling party, the AIADMK, still has a long way to go and an election that is more than two years away, but the rebuilding task at hand is huge, right from getting an orator like Jayalalitha, to the government’s performance itself. From a drama, that could create a TV Show, that could make House Of Cards look like a sitcom, the AIADMK has a huge image rebuilding operation to undertake. The party’s EPS and OPS factions might have united at top, but in an era, without Jayalalitha, an emphasis is on the grassroots, and the real toll of this division, and its fallout at grassroots is yet to be understood. All in all, by poll losses are not a great sign for the party.

By winning the RK Nagar bypolls, TTV Dinakaran made a huge dent on not only AIADMK, but also DMK, but Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam or AMMK, still haven’t been tested in major elections, and as the by election results say it loud and clear, AMMK is there to stay and make a mark.

Congress, who have been at the sidelines of Tamil Nadu’s politics from a very long time, won’t leave a chance, amidst saffronization of the country by BJP, who have been winning state after state. Congress wouldn’t and shouldn’t leave its chances, as it tries to beat BJP which is miles ahead. A state Tamil Nadu give Congress, a glimmer of hope, where it can find none, a hope that it can still survive BJP’s onslaught.

Now comes to probably the darkest of the dark horses, the BJP, who have broken into all regions but Tamil Nadu. A state like Tamil Nadu still poses a huge task for the party, which has time and again tried to strengthen its Grassroots in the state and have failed to shed away it’s Brahminical image.

A lot of new parties, and change in the old guard, will bring about interesting times for Tamil Nadu’s politics, and who comes on top of this is to be seen.
