How Training Helps Employees - 5 Ways

To answer the public, let's look at five ways How Training Helps Employees. Hello reader (corny dad here), I make online learning experiences for companies. I've been in corporate education for a decade plus. My experience has brought me to this listicle today.

New Knowledge for Better Work Performance

The most common way that training helps employees comes from the perspective of the company. Most training managers, learning and development leaders, and human resource managers view training as a way to help employees improve their knowledge and skills so that they can boost productivity. Training helps employees add knowledge that will lead to them doing a better job.

Providing training and development to employees allows employers to pinpoint the knowledge and skills they want their employees to have. Training and development programs can educate employees about new skills or provide updates on existing skills to enhance productivity. Importance of Training and Development for Employees

They Want to Keep Working There (increased engagement)

When people feel supported and there is opportunity to grow, most people are satisfied with their working environment. Training can help employees feel like their company cares to educate them on how to do things better. When training opportunities are inconsistent or poorly executed, 40 % of people tend to leave their jobs within the first year. If the training is learner-centric and shows the employees a path to new knowledge and advancement, people will want to work there as they feel there is an incentive.

With that in mind, companies that provide industry standard training will have more engaged employees, and therefore, are more likely to retain employees. It costs money to replace staff, so it simply makes sense to train and develop current staff and improve employee retention at the same time.  5 reasons why employee training is important

Improves Motivation

It's the end of summer, the economy and political landscape are not encouraging. Oh yeah, it's the end of summer and the temperatures, sunshine, and blue skies are calling everyone to do something outside before the impending doom of winter arrives. Training helps employees with motivation because it offers them access to new knowledge and skills that will give them a fresh perspective on their job. Training can address complacency and ways of doing things so that people can say, "Oh snap, I never thought of it that way! I'll try it and see you in three weeks during our huddle to share how it's going." Therefore, regardless of the temperatures, blue skies, and the economy, training can help improve motivation and offer help to employees who are leaning towards apathy.

Motivation is based on growth needs. Training is an internal engine, and its benefits show up over a long period of time. Because the ultimate reward in personal growth is motivation and a trained and motivated employee is an asset for an organisation. The only way to motivate an employee is to give (them) challenging work for which (they) can assume responsibility. Training –A motivational tool. - IOSR Journal

Increases Employee Capabilities

Training helps employees learn new skills so that they can take on more responsibility. If training is carefully planned and executed, an employee can learn how to move into a higher role. New software or new leadership skills will help employees rise to the challenge and improve their lot in the company, which only benefits the larger organization.

Leaders who feel empowered within the workplace will be more effective at influencing employees and gaining their trust. Consequently, those employees will feel a greater sense of autonomy, value, and confidence within their work. SHRM defines employee autonomy as the extent to which an employee feels independent and can makes their own decisions about the work they do. Why Is Training And Development Important?

Builds a Learning Community

We live in a different workplace world post-pandemic. To be clear, I mean since the pandemic changed the way we work. A learning community is a value add that only certain organizations are starting to address. Remote and hybrid work has made the socialization side of work more challenging. So how does training help employees? Well, training in a community allows people to socialize learning. Think of a time you were in a classroom and the collective buzz made everyone feel excited. This could be a small group discussion in a college class or even as far back as show and tell in grade school. There is no doubt that a bunch of humans excited about new knowledge creates a momentum of learning excitement. Training can help create this for employees.

Since many of these employees are isolated from peers and colleagues, collaboration and cooperation become more challenging in a hybrid workplace. Learning circles drive collaborative learning in a hybrid work world. Most importantly, learning through social circles promotes knowledge sharing among hybrid workers, as it connects everyone through a shared goal: learning from each other. How To Build A Corporate Learning Community By Leveraging Social Learning

Conclusion

How training helps employees comes down to the feeling in the end. Does the employee feel like they have access to new information that will help them grow? Are employees satisfied working at your company because the training opportunities allow them to grow? Does the training improve motivation and inspire growth? Are people more capable after training? And finally, is the training building a community of learners? If you answered yes to all five questions, then you are helping your employees with training. Even if you answered no to one or more of these questions, there is still time to make the improvements to your training plans. Motivate, inspire, boost, and build! You got this!
